Home Remedies for dry and oily skin

Skin is of two types – dry and oily. Dry skin is hard and do not acquire natural oils to keep it soft because its sebaceous glands does not function properly. Therefore, skin is not fully hydrated. On the other hand, because of vaporization water disappears from the skin. As a result, the skin becomes dry.

The water level in the millions of skin cells is regulated by hormones and atmospheric changes. If the weather is hot, water will evaporate from skin quickly and skin will get dry. If it is rainy season, the skin retains moisture. There are some natural substances in the skin which also help to retain hydrate. But with the advancing age, such natural resources dry and the skin becomes dry.


Dry skin requires moist and oily stuff. It is seen that skin near eyes and throat becomes dry because the secretion of natural oils in these areas in not enough and fine wrinkles appear around the throat and eyes.

The bathing soap usage makes the skin drier. Therefore, bathing soap use should be minimal on these areas. Also avoid sun exposure as much as possible because it reduces the water level of the skin still further.

After 40 years of age women nears the menopause stage, as a result of the hormonal changes, the sebaceous glands begin to contract and the output of natural oils is diminished. Therefore, the skin becomes dry and dehydrated and cracked. It also loses its smoothness. 
Despite the dryness of the skin, the problem of acne can come up even at late age and can be accompanied by burning sensation and redness.

In such a case, avoid hot drinks, chilies and spices. Do not use too oily lotion or cream for treatment.


Special care should be taken of diet. Take enough protein, balanced oily diet and plenty of green vegetables and fruits. Also ensure that one takes sufficient fiber in the food. Reduce intake of salt. Drink plenty of water, reduce intake of tea, coffee and sodas.

Do exercise for at least twenty minutes every day. Massage the body with oil.
Smoking and drinks hydrates the skin, avoid them.

Treatment for Dry Skin:

Orange:  Take orange peel and dry them in shade and ground them to make powder. Knead the powder in milk and rub the dry skin with it, skin will regain its softness.

Clarified Butter: To tackle the dryness of the skin, every day in the morning, take powder of 12 corns of black pepper mixed clarified butter.

Milk: Milk cream is very beneficial for dry skin to make it soft; rub the face with milk cream.

For protecting the skin against sunburn, apply the milk cream mixed with rosewater or alternatively mix milk cream with honey.

Papaya: Rub the grinded pulp of papaya on the face, it will make the skin of face smooth and soft and will enhance the beauty of the face.

Oil: Apply and massage the body with suitable oil on the dry skin.

Oily Skin: Oily skin is shiny and is sticky. Till the age of twenty, the skin is usually oily, this is because the hyper activity of sebaceous glands that becomes over active due to hormones. Besides, the skin is affected by the changes in weather. During the winter, the oily glands become more hyper active. Some people are naturally more affected by it than others. They also have to face the problem of acne.

But oily skin has its own advantages, oily skin is less prone to wrinkles and the sign of old age are not so loudly visible in them.

If your skin is oily, take care of emotions, diet, health and activities because the state of skin can be an indication of imbalance in one of the above factors. Do not partake of oily foods item, cakes and pastries, cream based items and fatty foods. Instead, taking fresh fruits and green vegetable is better. Take at least eight glasses of water every day. Have full quota of sleep. Exercise in fresh air so that blood circulation in the body improves, thus, a few changes as indicated above will rectify the imbalance. Also try to control emotions.


Treatment for oily Skin:

Water: Clean the skin with hot water to remove the extra oil.

Sandalwood: Mix sandalwood powder with rose water and rub it on the face, it removes spots, acne and pimples from the face.

Lemon:  Person with oily skin should wash their face with soap and water two times every day. It will remove spots, stain and pimples. Rubbing lemon on the face is useful.

Apple: Grind the apple and apply this paste on the face, wash it off after 10 – 12 minutes.

Gram Flour: Knead gram flour and rosewater and apply it on the body as well as face, wash it after 10 -12 months, it will remove the extra oil from the skin.
